The capacitance of the protection device is an important parameter for protection of high speed datalines. The more capacitance present on the dataline, the more the signal is deteriorated; therefore, when the maximum allowed capacitance is exceeded, the functioning of the protected application is disturbed. The protection device is usually not the only capacitance on a dataline since the whole path on the PCB contributes to the capacitance. However, the less capacitance the protection device has, the less effort has to be spent to minimize the capacitance at other locations of the signal path.
