The subject for this slide is a solution for solar energy systems. Concerto has the ability to do not only PLC, Ethernet, CAN, USB, or just run an operating system, it also has the ability to drive all of the power stages from a single device. When necessary there are ways to isolate these power stages. Isolation for CAN and USB are available now, USB isolation is being developed. Also, solar and wind energy applications are considered a quasi-safety critical applications. With the Concerto device, there is the ability to run an operating system on both cores of this device. It is possible to run Safe RTOS, or even System BIOS, the TI developed system, on both cores. In some of the applications there is the requirement to have a checker micro. When both of the micros are internal to the device, there is always cross-linking, therefore one core is always checking the other core to make sure it is still operating correctly. In this solution the C28X is running the power stages, and the Cortex-M3 side is running as the backup core and the communications core.
