QuickSense C8051F990 Low Power MCU with Capacitive Sensing Slide 43
There are a variety of other human interface demonstration and development tools available. There are two different FrontPanel demonstration boards. The two FrontPanel boards only require power (via a USB cable). The demos interact with human proximity and touch. LEDs illuminate to indicate the responsiveness of the hardware. For those wishing to dig deeper into the functionality, the demonstration hardware can be connected via the USB cable to QuickSense™ Studio to display the real-time performance values. The Silicon Labs FrontPanel2EK evaluation kit combines two powerful proximity sensing technologies: capacitive and infrared. The evaluation board includes a Silicon Labs C8051F800 MCU for capacitive button sensing, capacitive proximity sensing, LED control, and control of the Si1120 device. Modeled after an FR-4 PCB front panel, the infrared sensing is implemented with a single infrared LED and adjacent Si1120 infrared proximity detector. Visible LEDs illuminate when the buttons are pressed and when a hand enters the proximity region of either the infrared or capacitive sensing circuits. For convenience, the board includes the Silicon Labs Base Adapter circuit for USB connectivity to the Silicon Labs QuickSense Development Studio for sensor performance monitoring and threshold adjustment. For developers with deeper questions about the capacitive technology – Silicon Labs offers several application notes capable of self-serving the needs of advanced developers.
