IGBT and SLLIMM IPM Slide 6

The 650 volt ‘H’ series of TGFS IGBT devices target the appliance 3-phase motor control and lower frequency PFC market. End applications range from small fans, pumps and compressors, for range hood, ventilation and circulation/ceiling fans, water heater, furnace, boiler, gas appliance power ventilation, refrigeration, sewing machines, dishwashers, washing machine, blenders, and others. Most of these devices are offered with freewheeling diodes, the STGx30H60 is offered both without in the F suffix and with FWD in the DF suffix. Devices that do not have a freewheeling diode can be used with an external FWD device or are used in topologies such as boost PFC where a freewheeling diode is not necessary. As can be seen in the table on this slide, all of the part numbers begin with STGx , where x denotes a place holder for the package type character as seen on the right-hand side of the table. The remaining columns are as follows: the “BVCES” column indicates the breakdown voltage of the device at 25°C, “ICN” indicates the device current rating at 100°C, “Eoff” denotes the turn off energy losses in micro –Joules, “Max TJ” indicates the absolute maximum junction temperature allowable, the “tsc” column shows the short circuit withstand time in microseconds at Tj = 25°C without failing, “Switching frequency range” indicates the switching frequency for which the IGBT is optimized to provide a good balance between switching and conduction losses to minimize the total power lost, and the “FRD” column indicates whether or not a freewheeling diode is co-packaged and the type of technology that is employed. The short circuit rating allows a period of time for the control circuit to recognize a hard short circuit fault condition imposed on the IGBT and to have time to be able to turn off drive to IGBT before it fails, due to the short circuit overload condition.
