The devices shown on this slide target very high frequency boost PFC converters used in a wide variety of applications. The very low Eoff energy of these IGBTs allows for very high frequency operation, minimizing losses, and enabling the use of a smaller PFC choke and bulk output capacitors. These IGBTs rival high performance MOSFETS for low total losses and cost when used in high frequency PFC applications. Target applications include PFC front ends for appliances and other motor controls, pro-audio class D amplifiers, X-ray power supplies, welding and plasma cutting power sources, induction heating and cooking, UPS, microwave ovens, and many more applications. In these applications the PFC not only allows the load to draw a high PF sinusoidal current, but also maximizes the amount of power that can be drawn from a line connection, giving the end application the highest possible performance with a wide range of input voltages (90-265 VAC) allowed.
