The chart shown on this slide outlines ST’s H-bridge roadmap for brushed DC motor control. The integrated H-bridges are available with power stages RDS(on) ratings from 19 mΩ to 280 mΩ so that load requirements and controller cost can be balanced. The RDS(on) of the driver will determine the power dissipation and temperature rise that may be associated with a particular motor control application. Lower RDS(on) means more current with less heat. Higher RDS(on) is associated with less silicon in the power stage and therefore will be more cost effective for lower power requirements. The bottom section of the roadmap highlights the integrated power stage products that can be incorporated with an external H-bridge controller. The integrated power stage allows a very small footprint for high current applications.
