For stepper motor control the L9942 offers an extensive portfolio of features to drive bipolar stepper motors with high-efficiency and smooth operation. Step control is the key to torque management and the programmable stepping modes available via a lookup table offer low processor overhead capability, low-noise operation, and eliminating the effects of mechanical resonance. The L9942’s motor stall detection capability allows motor position alignment without an external sensor, while its step clock is addressable via SPI or by a separate input, to prevent SPI overloading if multiple motors are being controlled simultaneously. Power dissipation and EMI performance can be optimized via programmable slew rate control. Full short circuit, overvoltage and over-temperature protection are backed up with full output diagnostics and open load, and over-temperature warning.
