Class D Audio Amplifiers Slide 5
NXP Class D audio amplifiers can distinguish between an impedance drop of a loudspeaker and that of a low-ohmic short-circuit across the load, or to one of the supply lines. In case of an impedance drop (for example due to the dynamic behavior of the loudspeaker) the maximum output current is limited to the allowable maximum current, but the amplifier will not switch off completely, thus preventing audio holes from occurring. The result will be a clipping output signal without any artifacts. This is called current limiting, and will result in NXP amplifiers becoming less sensitive to load and supply modulation.
