Powering FPGAs Slide 20
Another solution that is quite different from the power modules are single chip PMUs, or Power Management Units. These IC solutions contain multiple voltage regulators. The IC on the right is the LM26480 which includes two buck regulators, each capable of 1.5A output current, and two LDOs capable of 300mA each (only one is shown). This provides up to four outputs in a compact package. The biggest drawback to an integrated PMU device such as this is its limited output current capability, but it is a convenient solution for smaller designs. The IC on the left is the LM3880 Power Sequencer. Its three open drain outputs allow designers to control the power on-off sequencing of the power supplies with user specified time delays between each. Multiple LM3880s can be cascaded together to sequence more than three power supplies.
