Powering FPGAs Slide 12
A regulator with too high a crossover frequency may be under damped. Although this example shows even smaller overshoot and undershoot excursions, the ringing on the output voltage shows the regulator has marginal stability. This would not be a safe design. Bode plots require using network analyzers, which are specialized tools and generally more costly. An alternative is Texas Instruments' WEBENCH® tool, which uses a simulation program with integrated circuit emphasis to simulate the crossover frequency and phase margin a given circuit will produce. The switching frequency can also be changed in the WEBENCH tool to re-simulate its effects on the design.
