One common question asked of Pulse Electronics, a YAGEO Company is; “why are there three pads on the board and only two on the antenna?” The short answer is that the feed point and backside short, required for function of a PIFA, is accomplished by the pad on the antenna shorting the two pads on the PCB. The board pads are normally kept separate to make impedance matching more stable and straight forward.
