traditional approach
The traditional graphics model, that does not use the FTDI EVE solution, consists of several items, each of which adds cost to the overall bill of materials. A CPU with a graphics library, external program and data memory, an external video frame buffer of nearly 1MByte, and separate touch and audio controllers are required. These items increase overall system cost not only through the additional components but also increasing the required PCB real estate and valuable development time. A full-featured OS may also be needed, such as Linux, which adds even more to the system complexity.
