The main components of the Smart Grid are shown on this slide. Sensors and controls provide information on the status of the grid and the ability to make changes. Two –way communications between grid operators, components, and consumers help utilities run the grid, and help consumers manage their energy use. The Smart Grid will require improved hardware and software resources, data will need to be analyzed and acted upon in real time. Security of data and Smart Grid components will also need to be considered. Therefore, there will be increasing requirement for applications and information technology. Consumer and end-user electronic devices enable consumers to manage their energy use, and allow the utilities to manage peak demand and load.
