Smart Grid Solutions: Smart Grid Distribution/Smart Meters Slide 12

Shown on this slide is a simplified block diagram of a typical Smart Meter. As can be seen, the main function of the basic E-meter is the functionality, which measures the energy. Microcontrollers with dlms (device language message specification) protocols work with the data. The system also includes a power supply for the meter, embedded security, memory for the data, a reliable real-time clock, and anti-tamper protection with ST’s sensor devices. The information is transferred either through the power line, inside the house through the network with RF transceivers, or via the power line modem.
