In order to have forty million meters installed in the world during the last five years, it is necessary to be part of several alliances, to be part of standards definition; not only to be active members, but also part of the definition of the standard itself. Shown on this slide is a review of which standards ST is a part of and which standards their devices apply to. From the very beginning, ST worked with the Prime Alliance which offers embedded 130 kbps narrow band meter with OFDM capability as well as Meters and More, OPENMeter, and Open Standard that are working with lower speeds. ST is also strongly connected with the Home Plug Powerline Alliance, which applies the broadband power line technology. This is not used very much in the Smart Meter application; mostly in the smart goods utilization networks inside the house. ST works with standards from Spain, Italy, the U.S., and China; nearly all of the standards throughout the world. Latin America has not yet defined their own standards, but they are currently re-using some of the European standards.
