Two way portable radios typically operate at a 7 V supply and require a power level between 3 W and 5 W at the antenna. ST is offering a complete set of products covering the different two way radio bands (HF, VHF, UHF 400 MHz and 900 MHz). Two LDMOS 7 V families are available and capable of delivering an output power from 1 W up to 10 W housed in cost effective plastic packages such as SOT89, PowerFLAT 5 x 5 mm and PowerSO-10RF 10 x 10 mm. The PD54xxx series is specified at 500 MHz and capable of operating from 1 MHz up to 1 GHz. The PD84xxx series is specified at 870 MHz and capable of operating from 1 MHz up to 2 GHz. A significant improvement in terms of RF performance (+3 dB gain, +10% efficiency), ruggedness and reliability makes this new product line ideal for portable applications.
