Product List
The charts in this slide compare link budgets between the Si10xx and the competition. From this it is possible to get an idea of the communication range. The top chart illustrates a typical competitor and the lower chart is the Si10xx. The competition has a typical receive sensitivity of -110dBm and a transmit output power of +10dBm. This means a link budget of ~120dBm is achieved. By comparison, the Si10xx has -121dBm sensitivity and +20dBm output, resulting in a ~141dBm link budget. If environmental conditions are allowed to degrade these link budgets, the ranges become equally shorter. Typical environmental conditions that can degrade the link budget include multi-path fading and antenna polarization. These conditions can easily remove 10dB from each line. Through the use of antenna diversity however, 8-10dB can be recovered. Many customers do not implement antenna diversity since the cost in the MCU is prohibitive, both in terms of cycle overhead and MCU speed. With the Si10xx, the robust functionality of antenna diversity does not burden the MCU or require the customer to implement a complicated algorithm in software.
