The Si10xx/1x family delivers good performance for low power wireless applications. A major design requirement for low power systems is maximizing battery life. To accomplish this, both the active and sleep modes must have low current consumption. Si10xx/1x components have low active mode current so that less energy is consumed when the device is operating. These parts also have low sleep mode current to reduce the overall energy when the device is not in use. Combined, these two features provide low average current consumption to extend battery life. The Si10xx/1x devices have an on-board, high-power RF power amplifier (PA) that eliminates the need for an external PA in most applications. This reduces the system cost while simplifying the overall RF design. Equally as optimized is the RF receive chain, with a rated sensitivity of -121dBm, which is 15x better than the completion with similar power consumption. This translates into greater link range, reducing the need for costly repeaters or external low noise amplifiers (LNA). Also integrated into the Si10xx/1x is a switching DC/DC converter that provides high efficiency voltage conversion and enables the system to maintain constant power across the range of battery voltage.
