Endurance requirements are heavily dependent on the type of client application data write patterns. Data logging applications typically operate with Byte/Kilobyte size files. Writing files to NAND Flash that are smaller than the inherent page/block size results in high Write Amplification which in turn greatly reduces usable life. This is owing to the internal program/erase algorithms used to write to NAND Flash and manage cell wear. The endurance requirement for a specific application should take into consideration expected usable life (in years), data write patterns/workload, NAND media endurance rating and total data written per unit time (DWPD – drive writes per day).
