Given the varying cost-per-capacity ($/GB) for different NAND Flash memory, it is essential to perform a TCO analysis specific to the application and usable life requirements. In general cost/capacity is highest for SLC, followed by aMLC, MLC and finally TLC NAND Flash memory. However, endurance ratings and effective usable life also greatly varies between these NAND Flash memory types. An estimation in terms of cost/terabytes written ($/TBW) provides a more accurate metric for selecting the type of NAND Flash memory. Analyzing as a whole, variables including NAND Flash media capacity, number of years of usable life, DWPD and cost will help the user determine the right choice of media.
