Power cycling represents a major risk to data integrity in NAND flash based storage solutions. It is essential therefore to identify and develop mitigation technology to ensure data integrity, from the client system level down to the NAND Flash media level. Typically implementing backup power devices, such as batteries or capacitors at the system or media level can help to prevent issues arising from unstable power supply. Preventative measures that can be implemented at NAND media level are dependent on available real-estate in the target NAND media form factor. Larger media may accommodate capacitors, however certain smaller form factors may not allow for such solutions. ATP PowerProtector employs tantalum and/or polymer capacitors to provide backup energy.
