Cyclone3-Slide7

Shown here is a comparison of power consumption between the Cyclone® II and Cyclone® III. Without changing anything in a design, an average power savings of 30% is observed. The 30% advantage is achieved through a variety of techniques that are commonly used to reduce device power, including multiple threshold voltages in the device as well as variable channel lengths in the gates, which allow slower circuits to consume less power. To re-iterate, the typical power specification for the largest Cyclone® III device at 85°C is 170mW.
