As mentioned previously, certification and regulations are required for Bluetooth® designs, as is necessary for wireless systems in general. Specifically for Bluetooth, the user must become a member of the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (or SIG), and follow the device qualification testing, in order to label a device as a Bluetooth product. Although Bluetooth operates in the unlicensed 2.4 GHz ISM band and does not require licenses to communicate between two devices, it does however need to meet wireless regulations. A Bluetooth device is an intentional transmitter, and therefore requires certification of the device; certifications such as FCC, IC, CE or Telec approval.
