Transmitter output power is regulated and requires certification. A Class 2 certified device will have a signal that can travel about 10 m, or about a room’s range. A Class 1 device can travel upwards of 100 m, or in an actual application, about a house’s range. There is a third power class, although not a standard, called Class 1.5. This naming was designed to denote a device that achieves increased output power without the use of an external power amplifier.
