TCP/IP is a set of communications protocols used for the Internet which specify how data should be formatted, addressed, transmitted, routed, and received at the destination. Another component called the Configuration Utility allows users to set up system parameters like security and access point settings. At the beginning of the presentation it was mentioned that WLAN is essentially wireless Ethernet. WLAN and Ethernet drivers connect to the TCP/IP stack and the Configuration Utility in the same way. This allows Ethernet-based products to be upgrade to a wireless connection without needing to rewrite the software.
