Looking at a processor from a safety perspective really comes down to three basic components—CPU verification, memory verification, and peripheral verification. The processor does not guarantee safe operation of the system; safety comes from a safe functional safety of the entire system. The processor is one key component in the system. CPU memory and peripheral verification are enablers to provide a safe processor, which, in turn, helps the processor to be able to help provide a fail-safe system. Ultimately there are many external and internal diagnostics to help aid the processor provide a fail-safe system. CPU verification will not be detailed at this time, in this presentation. Texas Instruments expects to have training documentation available in the near future. For more information on CPU verification please contact Texas Instruments at ti.com. Next, memory verification will be discussed.
