Regarding the STSR2 Synchronous Rectification versus Schottky efficiency, the efficiency curves with the STSR2 in the blue line and the Schottky in the brown line can be seen on this slide. This indicates a good efficiency gain with peak efficiency at a high output current of 20 A of almost 6%. It has become important to get the most efficient power supplies and be able to package them in the smallest possible packages. This is possible when the efficiency is increased by that degree. The power components can be smaller and the heat dissipation is also less meaning less necessary heatsink. During light load operation, the STSR2 turns off the synchronous rectifiers, avoiding any malfunction due to the discontinuous mode condition. When heavy load transients are applied, the STSR2 provides the correct anticipation times, avoiding any short circuit between the primary and the secondary side. The implementation of the STSR2 is quite simple, requiring few external components, allowing simplification of the synchronous rectification technique.
