Each SR topology requires a device that targets its specific needs; the STSR2 is a smart driver for synchronous rectification in Forward converters. This device has a supply voltage range of 4.5 to 5.5 V, a typical peak output current of -2 A source and 3.5 A sink, meaning the user can drive 2 A into the gate and draw 3.5 A from the gate of the MOSFET to get it turning on and off very quickly, with an operating frequency of 20 kHz to 750 kHz. It features smart turn-off anticipation timing, operation independent from the forward magnetic reset technique, so if the user is applying that technique, it does not impact the SR control. It is possible to operate in discontinuous mode as well. The applications are high-current forward converters for servers, and low-output voltage DC/DC forward modules. It will work in both AC/DC and DC/DC converters. Also, it will work with active reset and passive reset converters.
