This slide gives an example of a handheld device, such as a cellular phone, GPS, tablet, or any other handheld device. Typically these devices require two or more expensive TCXOs. For instance, they may need one TCXO for the GPS module and another one for the WLAN module. Using the NB3RL02, a low cost fanout buffer with one input and two outputs, and an integrated LDO is an innovative, power efficient, cost sensitive way to reduce the BOM cost of any handheld device. Only one TCXO is required instead of two. The NB3RL02 is in shutdown mode until it receives a request from either module. Once a request is received, it powers up its internal LDO and the TCXO which was previously turned. Then it sends a clock signal to the input of the NB3RL02 which finally provides the clocks to run the external modules. When both modules are turned off, the NB3RL02 goes back into shutdown mode, switching off the internal LDO which in turn shuts down the external TCXO.
