If the traces are not tightly couple, not only might they radiate, but the greater inductance will soften the edges of the gate drive currents. Thus, the MOSFETs will not turn on and off as quickly and efficiency will suffer. A highly inductive gate drive trace could also lead to cross conduction of the MOSFETs where the “dead time” is insufficient to ensure both MOSFETs are off at the same time.
