ANT-Slide33

As more and more group uses for ANT have been developed, a search option, proximity search, has been added that can be used with all types of channel configurations. Unlike the traditional search which could not differentiate between signal strength levels and connect with the first transmitter in range, the proximity search option allows for the developer to set a desired minimum level of signal strength to best single out a specific transmitter. Consider a person in a spin class getting on their spin bike alongside forty others all at once. Naturally the computer on the spin bike should connect only with the user’s heart rate strap. The proximity search allows the bike’s computer to only see the strap ID from one sitting on the seat in front of it and therefore all forty participants can jump on and start their class. Note that signal strength is affected by a lot of uncontrollable factors such as interference or antenna directionality. By testing at development time the developer can select one of the ten available signal strength bins to suit the application's particular needs.
