Acknowledged messages are valuable for links that require assurance of receipt, such as a control application. The slave automatically responds to the sending master that the message had the been received. Though the slave to master acknowledged message uses slightly more power, it is much more reliable over a variety of use cases. Caution must be observed to avoid incorrect state machine transitions. It is recommended not to use a master initiated acknowledged transmission where there is a potential of multiple slaves receiving the signal, the slave can be confused as to which node should respond. As an example, a bike power meter may be transmitting to a watch and a bike computer with both displaying the readings. If an acknowledged message was sent, the watch may respond when the computer is the intended responder.
