SleepWalking is also a unique feature available in a lot of Microchip Smart Microcontrollers. It is an alternative form of Event System. It lets peripherals operate without the system clock being active, and helps to reduce the system power consumption without compromising response time. An example is shown on this slide. 2-wire UARTs and TWI resumes partial asynchronous operation on IO event and wakes up the CPU only when needed. First, asynchronous start detection and comparison of address/data field against preprogrammed value. If it matches, then wake up the CPU on valid address/data comparison. The system will only wake up the CPU when needed with a preset triggering asynchronous event, thus further reducing system power consumption.
