Texas Instruments also offers more highly integrated devices and larger solutions targeting devices such as C2000, C5000, and OMAP. The first item in the top left position on this slide is a power management IC, containing more than just one regulator. As can be seen, the TPS65054 has two DC/DC regulators and four linear regulators. The solution size of this device is beneficial in the case of a processor which requires more than just supply voltage. TI offers other options, such as the configuration in the middle of the top row which features two dual DC/DC converters, splitting the power across the PCB which can actually help by being physically close to the point in the application where the power is needed. On the right end is another approach to power management which not only supplies the processor power, but also controls the sequence of powering up the complete application. In many applications, it is necessary to have the core up and running before the I/Os are powered to avoid conflicts.
