Patient monitoring and the ECG market will be discussed first. Shown on this slide, beginning at the lower left, are the different market segments which range from low-end, to mid-end, to high end. As the applications progress from low-end to high-end, the number of sensor leads increases. With an increased number of leads, there is a corresponding increase in the complexity of the analog circuitry, MCU, signal processing, and power requirements, which are going to affect each of these markets. As an example, on the low-end, there are heart rate monitors, consumer instruments and PBANs, personal body area networks. The mid-end applications include pulse monitors, defibrillators, and other types of patient monitoring. Finally, the high-end market includes instruments such as ECG, EEG, fetal ECG, and bispectral index monitors.
