Electromagnetic Noise Reduction Slide 60

This page highlights some of the noise-related development that went into the design of the M16C series MCUs. It also shows a practical example of the design techniques we just mentioned. Specifically, it points out the innovative pin layout of the Renesas devices, and, especially, the circuit board implementation pattern of Vcc, GND, and the oscillation circuit. The M16C microcontroller’s pin layout is the result of careful analysis and prudent, insightful, design. The power-related pins are arranged to prevent power-line short circuits: XOUT, the GND (Vss), then XIN, the VCC. This arrangement simplifies connection to the 2-terminal oscillation circuit and places the ground pin between the oscillator pins.
