Here signal A is generated by the output buffer of a device, but the output impedance of that buffer is different from the input impedance of the receiving device. Thus, a portion of signal A is reflected at the receiving device. This reflection gets overlapped on the proper signal, resulting in signal distortion, so-called ringing, as shown by signal A prime. Multiple reflections may occur in the signal path, resulting in severe distortion that completely masks the proper signal, as shown by signal A double-prime.
