The converter topologies shown here are typical and basic circuitry, however other topologies are available in the industry depending on the needs and final application. For example, for UPS, SMPS and Electrical welding equipment, the input is typically monophasic AC. For UPS, a battery bank is used instead of DC-Link capacitors in order to hold the output power supply to the system. A typical SMPS is the battery adapter for a laptop with DC output. Another example could be electrical welding equipment, with rectified AC output load at high frequency.
