low power consump
Keeping current consumption at a minimum level ensures longer battery life and reduces maintenance cost. Since battery-operated systems such as temperature sensors or gas and water meters spend most of the time in sleep mode, the system’s sleep current consumption represents a significant factor in calculating battery life. The Microchip AT86RF232 2.4GHz RF transceiver offers sleep current consumption of less than 0.4 µA and TRX off current consumption of less 330 µA. Even though the device spends most of is time in sleep mode, efficient transition from sleep to active mode, and vice versa, is an important factor in keeping the system’s power consumption figures to an absolute minimum. The AT86RF232 wakes up from sleep in less than 0.4 milliseconds. The AT86RF232 offers low current consumption, even during transmit and receive. The current consumption is as low as 11.8 mA and 13.8 mA in receive and transmit, respectively. The combination of low Sleep and Active current consumption figures ensures the low power performance of the AT86RF232.
