The Hercules MCU platform consists of three subfamilies: RM4x, TMS570 and TMS470M. The RM4x products focus on high performance MCUs specifically for industrial and medical applications. The temperature range on these devices is -40 to 105°C. As far as communication, these devices have 10/100 Ethernet and USB host and device connectivity. They are developed for safety standard level IEC 61508 SIL-3. From a core perspective, they utilize the ARM Cortex-R4 floating point CPU that provides over 350 DMIPS of performance which is the highest performance ARM core in TI’s portfolio. The TMS570 products are Q100 qualified and focus on high performance transportation applications. They are rated at -40 to 125°C temperature operation. These products feature FlexRay, CAN and LIN connectivity. From a safety standpoint, these are developed to ISO 26262 ASIL-D level and also the IEC 61508 SIL-3 standards. Additionally, they feature the ARM Cortex-R4 floating point CPU which provide over 280 DMIPS of performance. The TMS470 line is the value line. This means the product is at a lower cost point for applications not needing the performance or Flash memory size of the TMS570 or the RM and not needing the full level of safety that is provided by either of these. TMS470 are focused on transportation or general safety applications. They are automotive Q100 qualified temperature specification of -40 to 125°C and have LIN and CAN connectivity. This product can support safety systems for different levels of IEC 61508 and these are based on the Cortex-M3 CPU providing up to 100 DMIPS of performance.
