The eZ430 Chronos is based upon the technology of the CC430. This is a low power MSP430 MCU with an RF core built into it. The MSP430 has a 16-bit RISC architecture, up to 20 MHz processor speed and includes high performance analog sensor interfacing. Secondly, the Chronos has a CC1101, a built in sub-1 GHz RF transceiver which has high sensitivity, low current consumption, excellent blocking performance, flexible data rate and modulation format. All these specifications translate to saving power. Finally, the Chronos incorporates intelligent peripherals including the 100 nA comparator, 8 channel 12-bit ADC offering 200-ksps, 96 segment LCD controller and a 128-bit AES security encryption/decryption coprocessor. All of this can be packaged on the 7.0 mm x 7.0 mm area of a 48QFN or the 9.0mm x 9.0mm area of an 64QFN package.
