In addition to TDR, this device offers more advanced diagnostics that operate in parallel with the normal data flow.  The signal processing parameters used for recovery of data from the line can also be used to provide information on the length of the cable and quality of the connection. This Link Quality Monitor can then be used to detect common fault conditions even before they are serious enough to result in excessive data loss.  Preventative action can then be taken before a system failure occurs.
