This slide provides a breakdown of the nomenclature used in ST’s part numbers. As can be seen, the third digit is package identifier; P is aTO-220 device, D is for DPAK, and so on. The fourth and fifth digits are the indicative current range. While current is not the main parameter of the devices, this gives a representation of whether the device has large MOSFETs or not. The sixth digit indicates the polarity; in this example N is for N-channel, P would indicate P-channel. Following this, the seventh and eighth digits indicate the breakdown voltage, divided by 10; therefore 65 refers to 650V. Following the possible special features is the technology identifier which in this example is an M5 MOSFET.
