Most big industrial motors found in factories are powered from 3-phase AC voltages up to 400 V, as they require high power to operate. These are typically either induction motors or synchronous motors. Power devices rated at 1200 V, such as 1200 V silicon carbide (SiC) modules and 1200 V insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs) are used for the motor inverter circuit. Braking circuits employ 1200 V rated IGBT devices. Isolated gate drivers are also used in this type of application.
