Servo motors are found in applications requiring precise position control of various apparatuses, such as factory robots. Typically, these motors operate from 3-phase AC voltages up to 240 V and utilize power devices in the 600 V to 650 V range, such as 650 V discrete insulated gate bipolar transistors (IGBTs), 600 V intelligent power modules (IPMs), 650 V silicon carbide (SiC) FETs, and 600 V fast-recovery MOSFETs for the motor inverter circuit. Braking circuits employ both 650 V fast-recovery diodes (FRDs) and 650 V discrete IGBTs. Isolated gate drivers are also adopted in this type of application.
