Switch life expectancy is given on the data sheet at a test voltage and current chosen by the manufacturer. When evaluating lifetimes in a given application, a graph can be found on most data sheets that will show the number of expected operations for the amount of switching current within a circuit. By using the sliding scale and looking at the V-16 example, the maximum current for a resistive load is 16A, with an expected electrical life of 100,000 operations, minimum. Using this 16A rated switch to switch 8A of current, the total operations increases to 400,000 operations, minimum. Usually, these types of charts are provided as a reference only.
