SPIFI Elec
The physical interface of the SPIFI peripheral is shown in the diagram on this slide. On the left is an NXP LPC brand Cortex-M microcontroller with SPIFI. On the right is the Q-SPI Flash device. Initially the interface is configured with the standard four pins for traditional SPI devices. When configured with dual or quad SPI memory, it uses an additional one or two pins to support the dual or quad capability. NXP test results allow the SPIFI to operate at speeds up to 104 MHz. NXP has evaluated more than 95 of the most popular serial flash devices on the market, to confirm compatibility. Different serial flash vendors and devices require different commands and command formats. The SPIFI peripheral provides sufficient flexibility to be compatible with most common SPI flash, and includes extensions to help ensure compatibility with future devices. NXP provides an API with built-in ROM functions to make this easy for the user.
