TVS diode arrays are typically used to protect electronic equipment against ESD. In general, they come in two main types, TVS arrays and diode arrays. TVS arrays can be thought of as Zener diodes that come in discrete or multi-channel arrays and can protect anywhere from 8kV to 30kV depending on the capacitance of the suppressor. Packaging options range from 0201 size (i.e. discrete) to large MSOP-10 packages (i.e. arrays). In general these devices are meant to be used in low speed applications due to their capacitance and typical uses would be for keypads, pushbuttons, USB1.1, etc. Diode arrays use steering diodes centered around a large TVS (i.e. Zener) to help reduce the capacitance seen by the I/O. These devices are more suitable for high speed applications so they do not degrade or distort the signal. Some applications include, but are not limited to, USB2.0, USB3.0, HDMI, eSATA, DisplyPort, etc.
