The LTC4380 Surge Stopper reduces operating quiescent current to 8µA, dropping to 6µA in shutdown mode. The 8µA includes current flowing to all the four LTC4380 pins interfacing with the load current path. This low current consumption is ideal for always-on, battery operated systems in automotive, portable, and avionic applications. The LTC4380 overvoltage protection method is slightly different as it clamps the MOSFET gate voltage and therefore the output, instead of regulating the output like the LT4363 and LTC4364. The LTC4380 clamp voltage can be pin-selected for 12V and 24V systems or adjusted with an input Zener diode. The pin-selectable clamp eases design changes and reuse.
