phase change
Phase change materials, or PCTIM, are low temperature thermoplastics that combine the wetting properties of thermal grease with the convenience of a solid at room temperature. These wax-based materials melt at specific temperature, typically 51 or 60°C, resulting in excellent wetting and thermal performance. PCTIMs are available in pre-cut films or liquid formats for dispensing and printing. Similar to thermal greases, PCTIMs also require a mechanical fixture to hold the assembly in place. One example of a phase change material is Powerstrate Xtreme, a next-generation thermal interface material that provides a high level of thermal performance and reliability. It offers thermal conductivity of 3.4 W/m*K, with virtually zero interfacial thermal resistance in application.
